Real Madrid want Man City star to replace Toni Kroos

With Toni Kroos planning to retire this summer, Real Madrid have one eye on Manchester City midfielder Rodri to fill the gap left by the German midfielder, a report has claimed.

On Tuesday, Kroos announced his decision to hang up his boots following Germany’s Euro 2024 campaign, marking the end of a decade-long tenure with Los Blancos. His departure will undoubtedly be felt at the Bernabeu, and Madrid’s board must act swiftly to secure a replacement.

Kroos has been a linchpin in Madrid’s midfield for years, dictating play with his vision, passing range and tactical intelligence. Any potential replacement will need to not only match Kroos’ abilities but also adapt seamlessly to the demands of Madrid’s playing style and the high expectations of the club’s supporters.

According to AS, Madrid’s dream target is Rodri, but there is an acceptance that the 27-year-old is a near-impossible target.

Still under contract for three more years, Rodri is unsellable at City and Madrid are well aware that they will need another target for this summer.

As a result, Madrid officials are reported to be looking at Joshua Kimmich of Bayern Munich. The 29-year-old is entering the final 12 months of his contract and approaching a major crossroads in his career.

Despite his expiring deal, Bayern are expected to demand upwards of €60m to part ways with Kimmich – the sort of money Madrid are adamant they will not pay.

Should Bayern refuse to lower their asking price, then Madrid are prepared to play a waiting game with Kimmich, encouraging the German to let his contract expire and seal a free transfer to the Santiago Bernabeu next summer.
